Export an operation to a PLCopen XML file and convert it to sequential function logic

This example shows how to export an existing MCD operation to a PLCopen XML file, and then convert the operation to sequential function logic in SIMATIC.

Procedure

  1. On the Resource bar, in the Sequence Editor, right-click in the background and choose Export PLCopen XML.
  2. In the Export to group, click Browse and specify where to save the file, type a name for the file, and then click OK.
  3. (Optional) To make XML symbol names more descriptive, in the Setting group, select the Export with long symbol names check box.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Start SIMATIC.
  6. Create a new project.
  7. Specify a location and file name.
  8. In the left window, right-click the project name and do the following:
    • Highlight Insert New Object.
    • Select SIMATIC PC Station.
    • Name the station your computer's name.
  9. Double-click Configuration.
  10. In the HW Config menu, select the runtime system from the library.
  11. Drag the runtime system into the station.
  12. Save and exit.
  13. Select External Source.
  14. In the Insert External Source dialog box, set the file type to MCD PLCOpenXML Chart and select the file you want to insert.
  15. Click Open.
  16. In the SIMATIC Manager window, in the right pane, right-click on the MCD data file and choose Compile.
  17. Return to the SIMATIC Manager.
  18. In the SIMATIC Manager window, in the right pane, right-click the sequential function logic file and choose Compile.

Results

Before you download the code to a real or virtual PLC, you can review the compiled code in the Blocks folder.
