Logical index and letter code management
Mechatronics Concept Designer automatically assigns IEC 81346 letter codes plus a numeric index to logical blocks (e.g., W1, W2, ...). Three related tasks control this behavior: configuring how many digits the index uses, editing letter codes/index values by hand, and restoring auto-generated index values after a manual edit.
Configure digits for the logical index
Procedure
Open
%ugii_base_dir%\mechatronics\configuration\mechatronics_logical_configuration.xml.Set the Index Digit to the value you want.
<Aspect> <Aspect name="Function" bitmap="function_aspect" identity="=" ecadStructureLevel="High-level function"> <LetterCodeTable name="To be customized" lang="en" digit="1" seperator="."> <Description>Kind of Function</Description> <Index Digit="1"></Index>Note: If Index Digit is set to
0, no letter code will have a number.Save
%ugii_base_dir%\mechatronics\configuration\mechatronics_logical_configuration.xml.Restart Designcenter NX and create a new logical to verify that the letter code has the appropriate number of digits.
Change letter codes and index manually
Procedure
- In the System Navigator, click (do not double-click) the logical you want to edit.
- Click inside the Letter Code column of the logical.
- Type a new letter code and new index and press Enter.
The letter code is updated. If the index status changed as a result, the logical becomes locked.
Restore the logical index
Procedure
- Double-click the locked or unlocked icons in the Index Status column to ensure the nodes get updated appropriately.
- Right-click the Logical folder of the logical node you want to restore and choose Reapply Naming Rule.
Letter codes are updated to reflect your naming configuration on the selected node and its unlocked sub-nodes. (Locked nodes — i.e., ones that were manually edited — are left alone by Reapply Naming Rule, which is the mechanism that protects deliberate manual overrides from being clobbered by the automatic numbering scheme.)
How these fit together
- The XML configuration file controls the global default digit width for the auto-numbering scheme.
- Manually editing the Letter Code column locks that specific logical node so the automatic scheme won't touch it again.
- Reapply Naming Rule is the bulk "reset to automatic" operation, but it only affects unlocked nodes — locked (manually edited) nodes are preserved.
