Function shortcut commands

Use functions to define tasks to perform in order to satisfy the requirements. A function is best formulated by an active verb and a noun describing the system in an abstract, solution-independent way. Functions created in Teamcenter Integration can be added to Designcenter NX when using Teamcenter Integration mode.

This page documents the context-menu (shortcut) commands available at each level of the function hierarchy in the Systems Navigator.

Function folder commands (Systems Navigator)

The following shortcut commands are for the Function folder in the Systems Navigator:

  • Open Function Model
  • Export XML file — Only available in Native Designcenter NX.
  • Add New Function
  • Refresh Function Model — Only available in Teamcenter Integration mode.

Function-level commands — Native Designcenter NX

The following shortcut commands are available for a function in Native Designcenter NX:

  • Add New Function
  • Edit Function
  • Rename Function
  • Delete Function

Function root node commands — Teamcenter Integration mode

The following shortcut commands are available for a function root node in Teamcenter Integration:

  • Add New Requirement
  • Add Existing Requirement
  • Edit Requirement
  • Rename Requirement
  • Delete Requirement

(Note: the source documentation lists Requirement-labeled commands for the function root node; this reflects that at the Teamcenter Integration root, function and requirement folders share the same underlying BOM-structure command set.)

Child function node commands — Teamcenter Integration mode

The following shortcut commands are available for a child node function in Teamcenter Integration:

  • Add New Function
  • Add Existing Function
  • Derive Logical — creates a logical block derived from/linked to this function, the core function→logical traceability mechanism (mirrors "Derive Function" on requirements).
  • Edit Function
  • Rename Function
  • Delete Function
  • Start Tracelink — begins a tracelink from this function to another systems engineering object, for traceability (e.g., linking back to a requirement, or forward to a logical block/mechanical part/physics object).
