Create a reusable component in Teamcenter

This example shows the end-to-end procedure for creating a reusable (knowledge-enabled) component that is stored and versioned in a Teamcenter environment, connecting the Reuse Library UI in Designcenter NX to the Teamcenter item revision/dataset structure described in "Reusing knowledge-enabled components in Teamcenter."

Procedure

  1. In My Teamcenter, create separate folders for each group of reusable components that you plan to create.

Note: For additional information see the My Teamcenter Guide.

  2. In Designcenter NX, choose Menu → Tools → Reuse Library → Reuse Library Management.

  3. Click Add Library.

  4. In the Folder Select dialog box, select the folder that you want to add as a reuse library and click OK.

  5. In the Reuse Library Management dialog box, enter a name for the reuse library and click OK.

  6. In the Reuse Library dialog box, select a reuse library that contains reusable components.

  7. In the Member Select group, right-click a reusable component and select Create KRX file.

  8. In the Create/Edit KRX file dialog box, in the Spreadsheet box, click Select a file.

Note: If the reusable component is a member of a part family, the Spreadsheet box is inactive — a spreadsheet is not needed for part family members (see Results, below, for what's attached instead).

  9. In the Legend Image box, click Select a File.

  10. In the Open File dialog box, browse for and select the file that contains the graphic image for the reusable component.

  11. Click OK.

  12. In the Create/Edit KRX file dialog box, click OK.

Results

In Teamcenter, the item revision structure of a reusable component contains a KRX file, spreadsheet, and image file attached as datasets — matching the structure documented in "Reusing knowledge-enabled components in Teamcenter."

Note: If the reusable component is a part family member, the Family Members folder is attached to the item revision instead of a spreadsheet. This is the part-family-specific exception to the normal KRX+spreadsheet+image dataset trio.
