Creating and managing systems engineering models > Creating a functional model > Function dialog box
Function dialog box
Reference documentation for the fields in the Function dialog box (opened via Home tab → Systems Engineering group → Function, see "Create a function").
Parent Selection
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Select Parent Function | Lets you select the parent function of this function. |
Function Information
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | Sets the name of the function. |
| Description | Sets the description of the function. |
Function Instance Information
Only available in Teamcenter Integration and when the function is not a root function.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Instance Name | Sets the instance name of the function. |
Note: If the function is saved to Teamcenter Integration, the instance name is stored as a BOM Line attribute.
Parameters
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Parameters table | Displays the parameters of the function added using Add Parameter. The parameter is edited in the table. |
| Add Parameter | Lets you add new parameters to the parameters table. |
Parameters are the mechanism referenced in the Systems engineering models workflow topic for defining the "output parameters of the functions" that get associated with requirements — they are edited directly in this in-dialog table.
Attributes
Only available in Teamcenter Integration.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Teamcenter Attributes | Opens the Attributes dialog box and displays the attributes located in Teamcenter Integration. The attributes can only be modified; attributes cannot be added or deleted. |
Note: You must specify the function form type in the Customer Defaults dialog box (Mechatronics Concept Designer node → System Navigator) and fill out the Form Types group for Teamcenter Attributes to be available/mapped correctly.
Function attribute model summary
Compared to the Requirement dialog box, the Function dialog box is richer: in addition to Name/Description/parent-selection/Instance Name (all present on requirements too), functions add a Reference Designation Letter Code (set during creation, per IEC 81346 style classification), a native Parameters table for defining function-level engineering parameters (used for output-parameter-to-requirement association), and a read/edit-only Teamcenter Attributes panel gated behind a configured Form Type.
