Creating and managing systems engineering models > Transferring Physics Definition from Concept Model to Detailed Model
Replace concept model geometries with detailed geometries
This is the step-by-step procedure for the concept-to-detailed geometry swap, using the Replace Component command and the Replacement Assistant dialog box. It is the mechanical/physics counterpart to exporting a concept model's engineering data back into a downstream detailed-design (or, by extension, Teamcenter-governed) representation.
Procedure
Open the model that contains the components you want to replace.
Choose Home → Design Collaboration → Replace Component.
In the graphics window, select the components to be replaced.
Note: You can also select the components from the Assembly Navigator.
In the Replace Component dialog box, in the Replacement Part group, click Browse, then select the replacement component.
In the Replace Component dialog box, click OK.
The Replacement Assistant dialog box is displayed. It shows all the physics objects of the replaced component. The component you want to replace and the replacement component appear side-by-side in the graphics window.
In the Replacement Assistant dialog box, from the Physics Objects list, select a physics object.
Child objects that can be mapped based on your selection are automatically mapped and can be viewed in the Auto Mapping folder.
From the List, select a reference. The reference element appears in the concept model in the graphics window.
Select an equivalent reference element in the detailed model.
After the mapping for the physics object is complete, the color of the mapping indicator in the Ready column changes from red to green.
Repeat steps 6–9 until all mapping indicators are green, then click OK.
Result: The basic (concept) geometry is replaced with the updated (detailed) version, with physics definitions carried over per the mappings you specified.

Physics Objects
Physics table — columns available:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Physics Object | Lists the physics objects in the component to replace. |
| Ready | Shows the reference mapping status. Red = not all required references are selected in the replacement part yet. Green = all required references are selected. |
| Type | Displays the object type. You can use the folder nodes to view objects by physics type. |
Note: The Auto Mapping folder lists child objects that can be mapped automatically once the related (parent) objects have been assigned — this is the specific UI location referenced in "Transferring physics definitions" for automatic child-object mapping (e.g., not needing to manually map a speed control actuator once its joint is mapped).
Reference Mapping
| Control | Description |
|---|---|
| Specify Reference | Lets you specify an object of reference. |
| List | Lists the references of the selected physics object. References can include anchor points, vectors, directions, and so on. |
How the red/green Ready indicator relates to sync completeness
The Ready column's red→green transition is the dialog's built-in "is this mapping complete" signal — it is the closest UI-level analog to a sync/validation status indicator in this workflow. All physics objects must show green before clicking OK to complete the replace operation; this is the gating mechanism that prevents an incomplete concept-to-detailed transfer from silently going through.
