Animated Camera

Use the Animated Camera command to control and automate the camera view during a simulation.

Camera Types

You can create three types of cameras with the Animated Camera command:

  • User Defined — Lets you define different views using timestamps to change between the defined views.
  • Turntable — Lets you define a camera view that rotates about an axis.
  • Associate to Object — Lets you associate a camera to an object. You can:
    • Associate a camera with a target object on which to focus.
    • Associate a camera position with a path, such as a curve that passes through and around an assembly.
    • Fix the camera view in a specific position.

You can create multiple animated cameras in an assembly, but you can only activate one animated camera at a time. You can activate an animated camera during a simulation using:

  • The Runtime Inspector to access the runtime parameters manually.
  • Operations that reference the camera's runtime parameters.

Runtime Parameters

All animated camera types

  • type — Displays the animated camera type:
    • 0 — User Defined
    • 1 — Turntable
    • 2 — Associate to Object
  • active — Lets you activate or deactivate the animated camera during a simulation.

Turntable type

Use the following runtime parameters to control an animated camera of the Turntable type during a simulation:

  • type — Displays the type of animated camera as 1 — Turntable.
  • speed — Lets you set the rotation speed of the animated camera when it is active.
  • active — Lets you activate or deactivate the animated camera during a simulation.

Note: The rotation of a standalone turntable animated camera occurs in one second. You can use a time-based or event-based operation to control the duration of the rotation.

Associate to Object type

Use the following options to control an animated camera of the Associate to Object type during a simulation:

  • Time — In the Operation dialog box, use the Time box to set a duration for the recording.
  • active runtime parameter — Lets you activate or deactivate the animated camera during a simulation.
