Creating and managing systems engineering models > Defining design requirements

Defining design requirements

The initial step for a design or redesign of a mechatronics system is the management of requirements.

Example

You can create requirements to direct the scope of the project, such as:

  • The use of a specific signal protocol.
  • Size limitations of the system.
  • The speed capabilities of a system.

Managing requirements — the workflow

To manage requirements, do the following:

  1. Build requirement specification structures.
  2. Create a requirement specification.
  3. Import a requirement specification structure from Microsoft Word.
  4. Create a requirement specification structure from a template.
  5. View the requirement specifications.
  6. Modify the requirements while you make changes to the functional and logical models.

Note

You can perform requirement management tasks in Teamcenter. Refer to the Requirements Manager Guide section of the Teamcenter Help documentation for details. This underscores that MCD's requirement model is primarily authored/managed in Teamcenter's Requirements Manager, and then imported into MCD for browsing and traceability/linking against functional and logical elements.
